Privacy Policy
Shrtcut for macOS
Last updated: 9 August 2026
Shrtcut collects no data whatsoever. It has no analytics, no crash reporting, no accounts, and no network code of any kind. Nothing you do in Shrtcut is transmitted anywhere, because the app cannot transmit anything at all.
Who we are
Shrtcut is developed and published by Vegawear LTD (“we”, “us”). Because the app collects nothing and transmits nothing, we hold no personal data about you and there is no data of yours for us to access, share, or sell. Any questions about this policy can go to info@vegawear.info.
What Shrtcut stores
Your preferences — keyboard shortcuts, launcher groups, ring size, language and the per-app shortcuts you save — are written to macOS's standard preferences store (UserDefaults) in your own user account on this Mac. They stay on the machine. They are not synced, uploaded, or backed up by us. Deleting the app and its preferences removes them.
If you use Saved Passwords, the secret values are stored in the macOS Keychain on this Mac. Labels and related metadata for those entries may live in preferences; the passwords themselves do not. Keychain items remain under macOS’s usual unlock rules and are never transmitted by Shrtcut.
Why Shrtcut asks for Accessibility permission
macOS requires Accessibility permission for the two things Shrtcut exists to do:
- Global keyboard shortcuts. Receiving a keystroke while another app is in front — and preventing that keystroke from also reaching the app in front — is only possible with this permission.
- Listing an app's windows. The window arc reads the titles and positions of the open windows belonging to the app you have highlighted, so it can offer them to you and bring the one you pick to the front.
This information is read at the moment you open a ring, used to draw that ring, and discarded when it closes. It is never written to disk and never leaves your Mac. Shrtcut does not log keystrokes, does not read window contents, and does not observe anything while its rings are closed.
What Shrtcut does not do
- No data is sent off the device — the app contains no networking code.
- No analytics, telemetry, advertising or tracking of any kind.
- No third-party SDKs. Shrtcut links only Apple's own system frameworks.
- No account, sign-in, or personal information is ever requested.
Distribution
The build offered here is distributed directly by Vegawear LTD, signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarised by Apple. Should a sandboxed edition be published on the Mac App Store, it would be subject to Apple’s own terms and privacy disclosures in addition to this policy; it would still collect nothing, since the app contains no networking code.
Children
Shrtcut is a general-purpose utility, is not directed at children, and collects no information from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, the revised version will be published at this address with an updated date above. The app's behaviour and this document are versioned in the same repository, so they change together.
